She grew up in Surrey, British Columbia and is a member of the Heiltsuk Nation on the coast of British Columbia. She completed her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Winnipeg with a major in Sociology and received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Manitoba in 2012.
