Our team has appeared in court in Winnipeg and throughout Manitoba including, Brandon, Portage La Prairie, Thompson, The Pas, Selkirk and Dauphin. Our lawyers have appeared in all levels of court including Provincial Court, Court of Queen’s Bench and the Court of Appeal.

Our lawyers have many years of experience dealing with all domestic issues and understand the emotional impact and stress of a separation. Our lawyers are compassionate and skilled in helping you navigate through this difficult process. Our lawyers are available to meet with you and guide you through the separation process, explain your legal rights and provide you with sound advice on how to proceed whether you are already separated or considering a separation.

As lawyers, we understand the life changing consequences of proceeding with a divorce and can work towards resolving all issues associated with divorce including custody, access and property issues as quickly and amicably as possible. Our lawyers are skilled in the collaborative process and are strong advocates in court, if necessary. Our lawyers pride themselves on settling cases in the most cost efficient and effective manner possible, as we understand the financial and emotional toll a divorce takes on families. Whether you are recently separated or have been separated for several years and wish to finalize the divorce, our lawyers can provide you with advice on your legal rights and the current state of the law as it relates to your specific case.

Our lawyers are also parents and understand that issues surrounding custody and periods of care and control are sensitive and often create the most conflict. Our lawyers are knowledgeable in recognizing when additional professional resources may be required outside of the court process, including mediation, parenting coaches, or professional assessments. Once a separation occurs, a parenting plan is crucial. Our lawyers can provide options specific to your case while being cognizant of the needs and best interests of your children.

Our lawyers are experienced and have the tools necessary to obtain and vary child support orders. Our lawyers have represented both recipients of child support and payers of child support. We can help with obtaining initial child support orders based on the Child Support Guidelines which prescribe basic amounts of child support for children under the age of majority, with the potential for additional amounts to help cover special or extraordinary expenses for your children. We can also help with engaging the services of Maintenance Enforcement, the Manitoba Child Support Recalculation Service, dealing with child support arrears, updating child support, and child support for adult ‘children’. For payers of child support, our lawyers can assist in varying court orders that no longer reflect the appropriate child support amount due to a job loss, retirement or disability. When children are no longer eligible for receipt of continued child support, our lawyers can assist. In the event that Maintenance Enforcement has obtained a garnishment order or seized your drivers’ license and/or your passport, our lawyers may be able to assist you in resolving any misunderstandings, or updates to your Orders, as required.

Our lawyers have the knowledge and skills necessary to deal with cases involving property division issues relating to businesses, corporations, pensions, cottages, family homes large and small and finding practical solutions for division. We have experience handling simple and complex Family Property Act references, applications for partition and sale and motions for exclusive occupation. We understand the need to seek out practical resolutions to property division matters in the most cost efficient manner, no matter how large or small a family’s holdings may be.

We are also able to assist with Cohabitation Agreements and Prenuptial Agreements, for clients needing to ensure that pre-acquired holdings and growth on those holdings are maintained as separate property. We are also able to assist in negotiating fair compromises and terms to ensure a balanced approach to Cohabitation Agreements and Prenuptial Agreements.

Our lawyers deal with issues related to spousal support regularly, whether you are seeking to receive spousal support, wish to discontinue paying spousal support or are unsure of your rights as they relate to spousal support. Our lawyers are knowledgeable and are familiar with emerging case law, the Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines and the complex considerations that drive questions relating to spousal support.

We have lawyers that are specially trained in the practice of Collaborative Law. As members of and active participants in Collaborative Practice Manitoba, our lawyers continue to hone their skills and network with a range of professionals to provide service in this method of practice that places an emphasis on interest based negotiation and creative resolutions.
